One of my all time favorite bars in PDX. It's been around for 11 years. Bills itself as a punk venue, but as this is Portland, they have a great variety of metal shows too. The best of the divey bars!
I've decided to begin a new photo series on Portland called Transmogrifried, documenting the dramatic changes happening at a breakneck pace in our growing city with an influx of new residents and a severe housing shortage. This is on 38th and NE Killingsworth. It was a beautiful old home in really good condition. It just happened to be on a large lot. I'm not foolish enough to say that it's anyone's fault exactly, as many family run businesses or homeowners are making a conscious effort to sell their homes or buildings and many developers are genuinely creating thoughtful homes/buildings to fulfill a need and do better for themselves and their families. As with anything that involves money, greed will follow and there are some very shady dealings happening. The city is also allowing buildings with many proposed tenants to build without requiring parking, developers are having historic properties removed from the historic register due to loopholes and then applying for demolition permits. I want to document those sites and spaces and businesses that draw my attention and that will probably be gone too soon. Also I'll be documenting those thoughtfully created buildings as well as the ticky tacky apartment buildings with retail below that are replacing decades old buildings/businesses. It's all about balance. I've chosen the 21:9 or Ultra HD format for this as it is a cinematic format and really lends itself to landscape.
